2024 Met Gala-Best Dressed

The first Monday in May is my favorite day in May.

Every year in New York City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art holds its annual gala and celebrities, designers, and models ascend the museum’s iconic steps in fantastical outfits for the sake of art and fashion.

This year’s exhibition, Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion, explores how technology can infuse new life into fashion through craftsmanship, innovation, and preservation. It feels especially fitting in New York, a city where fashion is constantly evolving while remaining deeply connected to its past.

The theme of the gala itself was The Garden of Time, and guests embraced the dress code through flowers, feathers, fringe, and dramatic silhouettes. Some interpretations felt romantic and poetic, while others leaned more theatrical.

Not all guests nailed the assignment, but there were many standouts. Lana Del Rey appeared in an Alexander McQueen dress from the Fall Winter 2006 collection, and Zendaya walked the carpet in two distinct looks, each completely different and equally strong.

The hair and makeup teams also deserve recognition this year. Beauty looks were thoughtful, and interesting, reinforcing the Met Gala’s continued influence on fashion and beauty trends in New York and beyond.

My favorite looks from the 2024 Met Gala are below.

Sydney Sweeney in Miu Miu- She literally looks like a princess. I’m not sure I love the wig but the color of her dress matches the color her eyes and her accessories are amazing. It’s also really refreshing to not see so much of this woman’s skin for a change!

Kendall Jenner in vintage Givenchy (designed by Alexander McQueen)-this dress is so on theme and so stunning. I love the sculptural neckline, the deep v, the tassels on the sleeves; everything about this look is beautiful.

Elle Fanning in Balmain- She looks like a Grecian ice sculpture and I am here for it.

Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne- This dress and beautiful and all but I think what really makes this look stand out is the gorgeous makeup and retro bob. I want this lipstick shade!

Greta Lee in Loewe- She understood the assignment.

Iris Law in Versace- I’m not usually a Versace girl but I think this dress is beautiful and perfect for the theme of the evening.

Leah Michele in Rodarte- A pregnant princess; what would Disney say? She looks stunning and I love this look for her and this theme.

Maria Sharapova in Atelier Prabal Gurung- Of course the color is reminiscent of a tennis ball, which is totally appropriate here, but the flowered sleeves and hair accessories really take this look off the court and onto the museum steps.

Michelle Williams in Chanel- She never lets me down. Her style is impeccable.
