PRADA prada prada
In Milan, back in 1913,
Mario Prada set quite the scene.
With leather bags and trunks in tow,
He planted seeds for style to grow.
Six years later, royalty already knew
That Prada’s bags were worth a view.
An old fashioned man, set firm in his ways,
Mario thought women at home should spend their days.
But his son had no wish to run the store,
So daughter Luisa walked through the door.
For twenty years, she kept things steady,
Then came Miuccia, who thought she wasn’t ready.
Inspired by the uniforms she wore to school,
Miuccia’s designs were instantly cool.
Her clothes were simple and neat;
a different approach to dressing the street.
She also used nylon to design a bag
With a triangle logo and Prada name tag.
The bags caught on, stylish and new,
And fans wondered what else Miuccia would pursue.
She started a new line in 1993;
Miu Miu was younger, a little more free.
Menswear came out that very same year,
Giving the men their own stylish gear.
Next Linea Rossa joined the brand,
With sporty pieces made for sea and land.
A little red stripe became the sign
Of Prada’s more athletic line.
In New York, she opened a giant flagship store,
With the architect Rem Koolhaas rethinking the decor.
Where fashion and architecture meet in the city,
To come to New York and not see it would be a pity.
In 2020, Raf Simons joined the crew,
Bringing to Prada his own point of view.
As co-creative director, he shared the reins,
Two different minds, with equal claims.
Together they continue to design clothes
That keep us curious and on our toes.
The older pieces stand the test of time,
Though the prices might feel like a crime.
But Prada is classic and always chic,
With a clever streak that is always unique.
